LEGACY CONNECT USB
LEGACY Connect USB is a USB wireless network drive, that enables you to network your machinery and send files via the local network and USB port.
HOW LEGACY CONNECT WAS DEVELOPED
Bringing LEGACY Connect USB to life wasn’t just about creating a simple storage adapter—it was about stripping Linux down to its bare essentials and building a custom environment, optimized for reliability and ease of use. We meticulously removed unnecessary services, ensuring the system runs only what’s needed - for seamless file transfers.
One of the biggest challenges was designing a user-friendly setup process. Instead of requiring users to navigate Linux commands, we built a dedicated web interface, allowing for quick and easy configuration from any device. This means users can set up WiFi and get started in minutes—without technical expertise.
Every part of this project was developed with performance, stability, and simplicity in mind, ensuring that even the most legacy machines can stay relevant in a modern workflow.
OTHER USES FOR LEGACY CONNECT
When developing LEGACY Connect, we initially invisioned this for use on legacy machines where networking wasn’t an option.
However, it’s uses do not end there. There are many reasons why this could be beneficial.
You may not want to spend thousands of pounds networking your existing machines. You might be considering making the switch from G-Code and would like to test CAD/CAM before committing. Or, if you have other tech, such as a 3D printer, and it would be helpful to send files wirelessly.
HOW LEGACY CONNECT WAS CONCEIVED
As Karpas Engineering was expanding its capabilities, we had the opportunity to buy an older Haas CNC Lathe.
Unfortunately, this did not come with networking, as all of our other machines do. After a couple of weeks of walking backwards and forward to the machine with a USB to load our CAM programmes, we thought there must be a way around this.
This resulted in LEGACY Connect.
CONSIDERATIONS OF USE FOR LEGACY CONNECT
We have tested LEGACY Connect on several CNC Machines, and it works on Haas Classic Control, older generation machines with USB, Hurco & Siemens 828D. Generally this will work if your machine has a USB port.
Unfortunately, this does not work with Haas Next Gen Controller.
If you bought LEGACY Connect, and it is not compatible, we will issue a refund (subject to T&Cs).
